Nino y el Viento

Nino and the Wind 🐤

*Reading Time: 3 minutes

Nino was a small and hardworking little bird who lived in a tree by the river. Since he was a chick, he had always dreamed of building the most beautiful nest in the forest. So, when the time came to make his own home, Nino got straight to work.

First, he gathered thin twigs and placed them one by one, as if it were a puzzle. Then, he added dry leaves to make the nest soft and comfortable. He was so proud! But just as he finished, the wind arrived, strong and mischievous, and blew so hard that the nest went flying. Nino watched it drift away, spinning through the air until it fell into the river. He stood there with his eyes wide open and his heart heavy with sadness.

“Why does the wind do this?” Nino wondered, shaking his wings to shake off the sorrow.

The next day, he decided to try again. This time, he used thicker branches and wedged them tightly so they wouldn’t move. He also added wet moss to make it heavier. When he finished, he smiled with satisfaction… but once again, the wind returned! With a single blow, the nest fell apart and crashed to the ground in pieces. Nino sighed deeply and went to bed early, thinking that perhaps he would never have a home.

The next morning, while searching for new materials for his third attempt, Nino heard a soft little voice.

“Hello, why are you so sad?”

He turned around and saw a small squirrel sitting on a nearby branch.

“I’m trying to build my nest, but the wind always takes it away,” said Nino with a pout.

The squirrel came closer and patted him gently on the wing.

“The wind can be very playful, but it’s also part of the forest. Maybe you need to pay attention to it before you build.”

“Pay attention to the wind?” asked Nino, confused.

“Yes,” replied the squirrel. “Watch where it blows and how it behaves. Learn from it instead of fighting against it.”

Nino thought it made sense. So, he spent the whole day observing the wind. He watched it play among the trees, spin the leaves, and sway the flowers. He noticed that some branches were harder to move because they were intertwined, and that spiderwebs held up better because they were flexible.

With these ideas in mind, Nino began working on his third nest. Instead of using hard branches, he chose flexible twigs that could bend without breaking. He wove them together like a net. Then, he added strands of spiderweb he found nearby, making sure everything stayed firmly in place. Finally, he used soft feathers to make it cozy.

When he finished, he looked at his work with a mix of hope and nervousness. He didn’t have to wait long: soon, the wind came whistling through the trees. Nino closed his eyes, expecting the worst. But this time, something incredible happened. The wind blew hard, but the nest stayed firm. The flexible twigs moved a little but didn’t break. The strands of spiderweb held on like elastic bands.

“It worked!” shouted Nino, hopping around with joy.

The wind seemed surprised too. It blew a couple more times, but the nest remained intact. Finally, it left laughing, as if it had accepted that it couldn’t win this time.

Nino entered his new home and felt happy and safe. It was perfect: sturdy, comfortable, and special. The squirrel came to visit and clapped excitedly.

“You did amazing, Nino! Now you have a nest that even the wind respects.”

From then on, Nino lived peacefully in his nest. He learned that although the wind could be mischievous, it was also part of the forest. And above all, he discovered that adapting and being creative could solve any problem.

The other birds in the forest admired his work so much that they began asking him for advice on building their own nests. Nino, delighted, shared everything he had learned. That way, the little bird not only gained a home but also many friends.

And every time the wind came whistling by, Nino simply smiled and waved. He knew he no longer had anything to fear.
